Where Did I Park My Car? How to Find It on iPhone or Android
Your phone may have saved the spot already. Here's where to look on iPhone and Android, and what to do when it didn't.
The quick answer
Check your phone before you start walking the rows. There's a fair chance it already saved the spot.
- iPhone: Open Apple Maps, search Parked Car and tap Directions. Maps drops that marker by itself when your iPhone disconnects from the car's CarPlay or Bluetooth. Asking Siri "Where's my car?" gets you the same thing.
- Android: Open Google Maps and look for the parking marker. It's only there if you tapped the blue location dot and chose Save parking when you got out.
- Nothing saved: the car itself usually knows where it is. More on that below.
Why your phone sometimes draws a blank
Your phone only knows where your phone was. Apple Maps sets its marker the moment the iPhone drops off the car's Bluetooth or CarPlay, so there's nothing to find in a car that has neither, or if Show Parked Location or Significant Locations is off in Settings. Google Maps only keeps a spot someone remembered to save.
And it goes out of date as soon as someone else drives. The valet leaves the car two floors down, or your partner takes it out and parks on another street, and the pin on your phone still points to where you left it.
Your car knows exactly where it is
A car with active connected services has its own GPS and cellular connection, and it reports its location to the manufacturer's cloud by itself. No pin to drop, nothing for you to remember. An app linked to that account can show the car's position on a live map whenever you need it.
Because the location comes from the car rather than from where your phone happened to be, it follows the car. If a valet or someone in your family moved it after you parked, the map shows where it is now, not where you left it.
Finding yours with CarConnect
CarConnect reads your car's own location and shows it on a live map next to lock state and fuel or charge level, so "where did I park?" gets answered by the car. There's no tracker to buy or hide under a seat. The car's built-in GPS and connection do the work.
Whether location shows up depends on your model and its connected-services plan, so run the free compatibility check in the app with your make, model and year before you subscribe. CarConnect supports 45+ makes across model years from roughly 2010, and every plan comes with a 15-day money-back guarantee.
